The Register
Forty plates drawn from across the edition. Select any specimen to read its record. The remaining two thousand nine hundred and sixty are held in the same register.
Taxonomy &
population
Traits were fixed at generation and cannot be altered. Population counts are absolute — scarcity here is a matter of record, not of promise.

Rarest recorded: the Celestial species, at twenty-three individuals — under one in a hundred and thirty of the edition.
They were not made. They were recovered — pulled, one at a time, from the collapse of stars that had already finished dying. What survives such an event does not survive it unchanged, and the register exists because someone thought it worth writing down exactly how each one differed.
The work of classification took longer than the recovery. Six species emerged, though the boundaries between them are the cartographer's, not nature's. Forty-seven traits were catalogued and then closed; nothing has been added since, and nothing will be.
What follows is the complete register of the first and only edition. Three thousand entries, each one a different survivor of a different death.
No two are identical. No two ever will be.
